Jurassic June - LEGO® giveaways, paleontologist Q&As and more
LEGO® Jurassic World: The Exhibition and T. REX OMNIMAX® film make Cincinnati Museum Center your dino destination this summer
CINCINNATI – Hold on to your butts… It’s Jurassic June at Cincinnati Museum Center!
With a month of giveaways, scientist and paleontologist meet-and-greets, a larger-than-life OMNIMAX® film and the jaw-dropping LEGO® Jurassic World: The Exhibition, Cincinnati Museum Center is a dino lover’s dream destination this summer.
The centerpiece of Jurassic June is LEGO® Jurassic World: The Exhibition, a six-million-LEGO®-brick adventure across Isla Nublar. Along the way you’ll come face-to-tooth with Velociraptors, Triceratops, a massive Brachiosaurus and, of course, the T. rex.
And, after posing in the iconic Jurassic Park Jeep® Wrangler to escape the fierce 278,366-brick T. rex, you can enter to win one of four LEGO sets featuring the vehicle. Enter by scanning a QR code in the exhibition. One winner will be chosen each week in June.
The museum is also lending its experts to add a little DNA fact to the Jurassic World fun. You can meet Heather Farrington, CMC’s Curator of Zoology, June 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the LEGO® Jurassic World: The Exhibition DNA Lab where they’ll take your questions about the ins and outs of DNA and how the museum is using both modern and ancient DNA to solve science mysteries.
Jurassic June is also invading the OMNIMAX® Theater where T. REX is ruling the domed screen. Anchored by the true story of three young fossil hunters who make the discovery of a lifetime, T. REX is a love letter to the iconic dinosaur (though it does hail from the Cretaceous, not the Jurassic Period). The film brings prehistory’s most famous dinosaur to life, with cutting edge graphics and new science that has helped reinvent our understanding of the iconic predator.
The museum’s paleontologist, Dr. Brenda Hunda, will stick around after the 11 a.m. OMNIMAX® screening of T. REX on June 13 to answer your paleontology questions, including how you can find fossils in your own backyard.
Of course, Jurassic June isn’t complete without a visit to Cincinnati Museum Center’s Dinosaur Hall, where six Jurassic giants prowl the gallery. A 60-foot Galeamopus greets you upon entering the gallery while the Jurassic’s top predator, a 30-foot Torvosaurus – the only one of its kind in the world – stalks the halls. Set against a backdrop of the Cincinnati skyline outside the gallery window, a robust Daspletosaurus bears a striking resemblance to its much younger cousin T. rex. The museum’s gallery of Jurassic dinosaurs has been at the forefront of groundbreaking scientific research over the past several years, with more research in progress.
