DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce our Keynote Speaker Dr. Antonia Novello\,  first women and Latina to serve as Surgeon General of the United States. \n\n\n\nThe theme of this year's summit is " Integrate-Educate-Empower" and will focus on sharing best practices that seek to improve the quality of health care serices for Hispanic Ohioans.\n\n\n\nHealth experts\, service providers\, public officials and community leaders will convene to share best practices\, discuss health policy and address issues on topics relevant to the Latino Community. From presentations on navigating the healthcare system and developing a behavioral and mental health\, the agenda will bring relevance and practical application for all attendees. The Latino Affairs Commission is honored to host Dr. Antonia Novello\, A Puerto Rican physician who has spent most of her career as a public health administrator\, and is the first woman to serve as U.S. Surgeon General.\n\n\n\n"Latino serving and grassroots organizations play an important role in educating and bringing access to health care services for the growing community: hence the importance to create spaces where these leaders\, experts and government officials can work together to integrate Latinos to mainstreem society\, help them understand the system thus resulting in empowered and engaged citizens. " stated Lilly Cavanaugh\, Executive Director of the Commission.\n\n\n\nHispanics are the fastest growing demographic in Ohio comprising more than 411\, 000 and accounting  for 3.5% of the state's population. The Ohio Latino Summit is organized in partnership with the University of Cincinnati Medical Center\, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)\, Mercy Health\, Closing the Health Gap\, and the Ohio  Commission on Minority Health.
