SUMMARY:Define your future\, redefine the world. Come fly with STEM.
DESCRIPTION:The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA)\, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and General Electric Aviation invite you and your family (children 3rd grade through 12th grade) to a special STEM (science\, technology\, engineering and math) event at General Electric's Learning Center. There will be special presentations for adults and workshops for the kids. Breakfast provided.\n\n\n\nWhy is STEM important to GE and to all parents with school age children?\n\n\n\nAccording to the U.S. Department of Commerce\, the number of STEM-related jobs is expected to grow 17 percent between 2008 and 2018 nearly twice as much as non-STEM jobs (9.8 percent). Jobs in computer-systems design are at the top of that list\, according to the National Math and Science Initiative.\n\n\n\nHowever\, only 20 percent of the workforce will have the skills to fill those jobs according to a report by the National Math and Science Initiative.\n\n\n\nCurrently STEM jobs take more than twice as long to fill as other openings -- A high school grad with a STEM background is in higher demand than a college grad without such skills says a recent Brookings Institution study.\n\n\n\nWe want our children to be part of the answer to these outages. Assuring a STEM education\, starting as early as possible\, is the way to meet this goal. Join us and find out more about STEM education and careers.\n\nhttp://www.nshmba.org/event/ge_stem2014
