SUMMARY:Seasonal Krohn Conservatory Show
DESCRIPTION:Floral Show Delights\n\nThe 2015 Holiday Show at Krohn is blossoming with the sweet twist of peppermint this season! Hop on the Poinsettia Expressand explore a landscape of swirling trees and striped blooms of deep reds and rich chartreuse. Candy cane striped amaryllis\, crimson poinsettias dappled in white\, spiral junipers\, and speckled caladiums create a charming floral setting for this year's interactive train display and botanical architecture. Charming trains circle the display around the fascinating "gingerbread-style" houses and Cincinnati landmarks made of all natural materials. Refresh your holiday spirit with your family and friends this year at Krohn Conservatory!\n\nVisitors will also experience local musicians\, the Schmalz Family holiday display\, extended "candlelight" hours and great photo opportunities.\n\nHoliday magic will definitely be in the air! \n\nFantastic Train and Historical Botanical Architecture:\n\nDelightful botanical architecture surrounded by many miles of train track will be created in natural components by the Applied Imagination team. Applied Imagination is unique in the world of garden railway displays. The train display and historical buildings created by Applied Imagination will immerse our visitors in the sights and sounds of chugging trains and splashing water\, with trains overhead and trolleys at your feet. The "botanical architecture" of bridges and historical buildings\, including the impressive Roebling Bridge\, a cascading water feature\, and replicas of historical buildings such as the Taft Birthplace and the Ault Park Pavilion\, are all constructed of locally gathered willow and other natural materials.\n\nA new display in the Fern House has tiny trains running around miniature "fairy-tale" characters creating a magical visit for the whole family.continues the "botanical architecture" with memories of your favorite childhood fairy tale\, as the trains wind through the center tropical beds.\n\nSchmalz Family Holiday Village\n\nThe Schmalz Family Village display was inspired by childhood holiday spirit. Starting in the 1960's\, Larry Schmalz and his wife Diana began by acquiring motionettes and decorations. These moving display characters were left over from the late 1940's and early 1950's window displays from Downtown Cincinnati retail shops such as Dodd's Jewelers\, Shillito's and Pogues\; the very same stores Larry window shopped as a child. Soon after\, the two car garage began to transition into what the family knows "The Christmas Room". "The Christmas Room" grew over the years to include a collection of Santa music boxes\, a twelve foot tree\, holiday train and mountain scene\, and the Caroler Village- modeled after the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. After the passing of Larry Schmalz\, the family offered the display to Cincinnati Parks as a donation so that the community can share in the spirit of the season\, just as their family had.
