Hispanic Volunteer Day Invites the Entire Community to Serve Together
Cincinnati, OH – The Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati Foundation (HCCUSA Foundation), in partnership with community organizations, is inviting residents from all backgrounds to participate in Hispanic Volunteer Day, a community-wide event that brings people together through service, collaboration, and civic engagement.
Hispanic Volunteer Day will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Cincinnati's Price Hill neighborhood and is hosted by the HCCUSA Foundation.
Since 2020, Hispanic Volunteer Day has celebrated its sixth consecutive year in 2026. The initiative promotes the spirit of volunteerism while strengthening connections across Greater Cincinnati. It provides opportunities for individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to make a meaningful impact through hands-on service projects that benefit local nonprofits and neighborhoods.
"This day is about more than volunteering," said Luz Elena Schemmel, Executive Director of the HCCUSA Foundation. "It is about building bridges, strengthening communities, and demonstrating what is possible when people come together to serve others."
Participants will work side by side on projects throughout the region, helping local organizations address community needs while fostering understanding, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose.
Hispanic Volunteer Day welcomes everyone, including community groups, individual volunteers, students, families, corporate teams, and sponsors. Participants have included teams from Procter and Gamble, Kroger, 5/3 Bank, and Western & Southern, Tri-Health, to name a few, and local institutions such as the University of Cincinnati and St. Xavier High School.
"Service has the power to unite people across cultures, languages, and backgrounds," said Alfonso Cornejo, Board Director of the HCCUSA Foundation. "Whether you speak Spanish or not, you can make a difference by showing up and lending a hand."
Why Hispanic Volunteer Day Matters
Hispanic Volunteer Day was established to encourage civic participation, volunteer leadership, and community involvement while highlighting the contributions of the Hispanic and Latino community. The initiative continues to grow each year by connecting volunteers with meaningful projects that create lasting impact.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Community Advocacy and Outreach: Assembling literacy kits and providing encouragement and support to families.
- Art Projects and Creative Service: Painting murals, creating community art installations, and beautifying schools.
- Conservation, Gardening, and Greenspace Maintenance: Participating in neighborhood and school cleanups, gardening projects, and outdoor maintenance activities.
"Hispanic Volunteer Day is not just for Hispanics. It is an invitation for everyone to come together, serve others, and strengthen our community. No Spanish is required, just a willingness to help," said Luz Elena Schemmel, Executive Director of the HCCUSA Foundation.
Everyone is welcome to participate.
You do not need to be Hispanic to volunteer, and you do not need to speak Spanish. All that is required is a willingness to help, serve, and make a positive difference in our community.
Whether you are an individual volunteer, a family looking to give back, a student seeking service opportunities, or a company interested in team-building through community engagement, Hispanic Volunteer Day offers a meaningful way to make an impact.
No Spanish required. Just a willingness to help.
