The Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati USA and the Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati Foundation

Colombia.

Cincinnati, Ohio (August 13, 2026) – On August 10, 2026, a devastating 7.4-magnitude
earthquake struck western Colombia, causing widespread destruction, claiming more than 250
lives, and injuring hundreds. Official reports indicate that approximately 500 people remain
unaccounted for. Neighboring countries, including Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama, also felt the
quake. The Colombian Geological Service recorded more than 70 aftershocks, affecting numerous
cities across the country.

Colombia has declared a state of natural disaster centered near San José del Palmar in the Chocó
region. The historic tremor caused extensive damage, collapsing buildings and damaging roads,
hospitals, and airports in cities such as Pereira, Manizales, and Cali.

On behalf of the Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati USA and the Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati
Foundation (HCCUSA Foundation), we extend our heartfelt solidarity and support to Colombians
living in Ohio who are grieving the impact of this devastating earthquake on their homeland. We
are inspired by the many civilians who have played a vital role in the immediate response efforts
by providing food and supplies and assisting firefighters in the search for survivors.

The Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati USA and the Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati Foundation
(HCCUSA Foundation) are committed to standing with the people of Colombia during this difficult
time. We are collaborating with Matthew 25: Ministries, a leading relief organization, to support
earthquake response and recovery efforts. In addition, we will partner with Matthew 25: Ministries
and 3CDC to host a Colombia Earthquake Benefit Collection Drive for relief supplies and
monetary donations benefiting earthquake-affected communities in Colombia during Salsa on the
Square at Fountain Square in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday, September 17, from 7:00 p.m. to
10:00 p.m.

“When a Colombian needs help, every heart beats as one.”

We encourage our community to support the victims of the Colombian earthquake through trusted
charitable donations, relief organizations, and humanitarian aid initiatives. Together, we can help
provide hope, resources, and assistance to the families and communities affected by this tragedy.
